Laura Story: What If Your Blessings Come Through Raindrops? Devotional Review

Laura Story's radio single "Blessings" hit #1 on Christian radio, and also won her a GRAMMY award. The poignant radio single has been helping believers look at suffering through God's point of view -- that when we suffer, we become closer to and more like our God. Next, Laura is releasing a 30-day devotional What If Your Blessings Come Through Raindrops? releasing March 13th to Worthy Publishing.

The easy-to-read devotional book features reflections of various kinds, most notably what blessings truly are. Whereas most of the world focuses on blessings as cars and expensive homes, Story shares that blessings are those bestowed on us by God, such as His peace, the fact that He never leaves us nor forsakes us, and even the Bible! She also looks at how to remain thankful during trials, turning your "why's" into "how's," and one of my very favorites, how to worship during trials -- that worship is not just a Sunday morning experience, it's what we choose to do especially in the tough times of life. At the end, Story even suggests writing a song to share with the world as David did in Psalm 40, and she shares helpful tips on how to create worshipful songs.

Though I didn't agree with 100% of Laura Story's observations on suffering, I definitely enjoyed reading of how she has learned to come closer to God and rely on Him for her every need. She shares how her readers can do that as well. And, with the short devotionals for every day of the month, there are also pertinent Scripture verses and quotes from well-known authors and speakers. Story did an excellent job of categorizing her devotionals and spreading them out so that each one builds on another. She helps the reader to see that blessings are all around us, and the most important blessing of all is God's Word, which strengthens us and encourages us through the trials of life.

Reading What If Your Blessings Come Through Raindrops? definitely gave me a new outlook on Laura Story's #1 award-winning single. It also helped me to realize that trails are a regular part of every believer's life, and we need not be ashamed of those trials. We can, in fact, take refuge in God's Word and find comfort from Him and from knowing that we are not alone in our struggles. This is a book that I will definitely be picking off the shelf and reading now and then to remind myself of God's blessings during struggles.
