Dana Jorgensen: Christmas and Hymns EP Review

You’ve heard countless Christmas albums, but how about a Christmas AND hymns album? Both are traditional and beloved, and that’s exactly what Dana Jorgensen delivers through his Christmas and Hymns EP. Through just five songs, Dana delivers a collection of heavenly tracks that will leave you breathless and coming back for more.

Dana’s acoustic-guitar version of “O Holy Night” is a very welcoming opening track, as is his rendition of  “O Come All Ye Faithful.” Both traditional tracks, though serene, are also catchy for the acoustic guitar/pop they present, and Dana’s vocals are an immediate highlight, being very flexible and soft. His original Christmas tune “When Love First Cried” follows, proving to be very fruitful. As Dana himself put it, “Jesus was born into humble surroundings in a stable where there were likely no sounds but the nearby animals. There were no carols being sung families giving gifts or a huge meal, just the beauty of His birth.” This beauty rings out loud and clear, as it also boasts on behalf of Dana’s amazing songwriting skills.

It was also fantastic to hear “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” on Dana Jorgensen’s Christmas and Hymns EP, and, as the only hymn on the project, it definitely fits right in. My favorite hymn of all times, Dana’s peaceful rendition was fantastic, as was the closing track, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel. “ It closes the EP in a wonderful, worshipful note that is a highlight of Dana’s music as a whole.

It’s a five song Christmas EP, it’s gorgeous, and it’s worshipful. This is a must-have for the Christmas season, and definitely one that belongs at the top of my list of favorite Christmas albums! Well done, Dana!
