Broken Girl

If there is one issue that God has placed on my heart, it is that of human trafficking. Did you know that every thirty seconds a child is sold into slavery? I saw these shocking statistic on Stop Child Trafficking's website, and they put everything into perspective:

  • 300,000 American children are at risk every year for human trafficking. -U.S. Department of Justice

  • 600,000-800,000 people are bought and sold across international borders each year; 50% are children, and most are female. The majority of these victims are forced into human trafficking. -U.S. Department of State, 2004, Trafficking in Persons Report

  • An estimated 14,500 to 17,500 foreign nationals are trafficked into the United States each year. The number of U.S. citizens trafficked within the country is even higher, with an estimated 200,000 American children at risk for trafficking... -U.S. Deparment of Justice Report to Congress from Attorney General John Ashcroft on U.S. Government Efforts to Combat Trafficking in Persons

  • An estimated 2.5 million children, the majority of them girls, are trafficked in the multi-billion dollar commercial trafficking industry.-UNICEF

  • Investigators and researchers estimate the average predator in the U.S. can make more than $200,000 a year off one young girl. -NBC Report by Teri Williams

Talk about terrible! Imagine those precious children that God created falling into the hands of perverted people who will tear their life apart! These children will never know real love again -- their life is often permanently destroyed! And get this: human trafficking is a multi-billion dollar industry! They make billions of dollars off of wrecking young children's lives through perversion.

However, thank God, there are several ministries that are doing something it help! Because of my stand on this subject, I've had the opportunity to partner with several ministries, whether it be through finances, through tweeting, or through writing a post like this. You can easily partner with any of the ministries to help end human trafficking. In fact, many of the ministries offer products made by those rescued from human trafficking. This is because after their rescue, these children have no place to go, nor do they know what true love is. These ministries help the children get back on their feet by teaching them how to make products and be productive. These products are what you can buy to sponsor a child's rescue. Thank God that homes for these children teach them how to get back on their feet, and that there is a God Who loves them just the way they are. I have included a handful of sites you can check out at the bottom of this post. Please be sure to check them out!

The inspiration for this post about human trafficking is "Broken Girl," an inspiring song written by Matthew West on his The Story of Your Life album. When Matthew was writing for this album, as many as 2/3 of his stories were written from girls who had been abused, whether verbal or physical. When I first heard this track, I was blown away. I was so blessed by how amazing and perfect Matthew's song was, and how encouraging it proved to be. I pray that Matthew's song will continue to reach those who have been affected by human trafficking, and I pray that God will use every one of us to put an end to human trafficking! Rise up and be a voice for those who have none. Be the change you want to see! How else will it happen?

  2. I agree as well. This is something God has placed on my heart as well, I've know it for a while I just didn't know what to do.
This is definitely something that needs to be stopped, the statistics are tragic and the world needs to be more aware of this.

  3. Jay, you are so right. We can't be silent on such topics. It's just so inhumane what people will do to get money! Thanks for being a voice for those who can't be.

  4. Those statistics are just incredible, as in bad. Mind-boggling, that in this age of success this horrid practice of slavery is at its height... It's just plain evil...

That song is wonderfully written! Thank you for posting this and proclaiming the reality of this issue!

  5. Jay,

Thanks for bringing up this cause where so much needs to be done. I'm just beginning to get involved with another great organization called Love146 to try to abolish child sex slavery and exploitation. I'm glad to see you support this cause and help spread the word.
