Christmas Time Is Downhere!

Hey, everybody, I’ve got great news! Downhere is giving away a copy of their single, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” for free! I enjoy Downhere’s unique style of pop very much, and so I’m pretty excited about this! You can catch your free song download here. (And please leave a comment if you enjoy it!!!)

This song comes off of Downhere’s Christmas album “How Many Kings: Songs for Christmas”. Lead singer/ guitarist Marc Martel explained that their Christmas album is more than about a baby in a manger. “It’s not just about a baby in a manger, but about the whole story. It’s a look at all the hopes placed on this fragile baby, who will eventually grow, take on the sins of the world, be crucified and rise again. There’s a mystery and a wonder behind it and also foreshadowing of what’s to come, which translates to redemption for the lost and the ultimate hope for the future.” So what does the new album sound like? Bassist Glenn Lavender explained, “They’re just meant to be really fun tracks that we recorded at Jason’s house while sitting around the living room. I was literally playing on his Juno Award and hitting everything else imaginable around the room and it made for a really fun afternoon. But it’s also very inviting to listen to and makes you feel like you’re with Downhere right there in the living room.” And as drummer Jeremy Thiessen added, “We didn’t want to pack a whole Christmas record with ‘Jingle Bells,’ ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ or anything that was considered all that fluffy. We were very selective in wanting to pick songs that actually said something than simply ‘it’s Christmas- let’s party!’ We’re just trying to get people to pay attention and unplug from all of the running around.” So what does Downhere hope to do with this project? They hope to be able to not only share the gospel, but also capture the attention of those who are not yet saved. So whether you’re shopping or just buying your presents online this year, take some time to relax to Downhere’s Christmas album! And if you’re not able to buy the album, at least you can download your free song!

A very special thank you to Penny from Centricity Records for letting me know about this!

  1. I LOVE Downhere! Their style is definitely unique, and I look forward to hearing more of their music. My favorite song by them so far is "Hope Is Rising". What a beautiful song. Their Christmas music is excellent, too!
