Superchick CD Review

“Rock What You Got” is Superchic[k]’s latest album. Although I did not like the title of this album, I loved the message behind it. It was an encouragement to every listener to keep going and face your fears, and “the rock you find will be your own”. This message is also shared in “One More”, a song that tells us that we can face one step at a time, instead of being overwhelmed by the other ninety-nine. “If I can overcome step one, than I can face the ninety-nine/ One more/ Go one more…”. This record was excellent, although “Breathe” is a song that I really don’t care for. The words are good, and the music progresses towards the end of the song, but I really don’t like the way it starts, so I usually just pass it by. My two favorite songs are “Hold,” and “Hey, Hey” (songs 5 and 4). “Hold” was the first single from this Superchic[k] album that was featured on Christian rock stations. It is a slower song, and the most obvious Christian song on the album, telling God that we “need a hand to hold”. These are the lyrics to the chorus: “I need/ I need a hand to hold/ to hold me from the edge/ the edge is sliding over slow/ I need/ I need Your hand to hold/ to hold me from the edge/the edge is sliding past/ hold on to me.” This song features great keyboard and guitar work. “Hey, Hey” is a pop/rock song, also telling listeners that they can be who God created them to be, instead of forming themselves into others standards. There is also a song exclusively for “chicks” called “So Beautiful”. This is another pop/rock songs that tells girls to be who they are. Being who you are is central in Superchic[k]’s latest record. The most recent radio hit is “Cross the Line”, a song daring others to go past the status quo.
Superchic[k]’s latest album is my favorite record by this group (that I have heard so far). All of the songs, with the exception of “Breathe”, were songs that I loved immediately. Jay reviews this album at 4 ¾ of 5 stars.
